Respty returned x x Upon a thorough investigation I find the house referred to is in possession of the Freedmens Bureau in York Co. It appears from the best evidence in my possession that it was taken from Mrs Hockady in Feby or March 1865 by John Donally, a [[?]] in the employ of Gov't sent [[?]] by Col J.J. Morrison then [[?]] at this Post.
It was turned over by the Qr Mr on the order of Genl Ludlow to Capt E.W. Coffier Asst Aupt York Co in May 1865. It is now and has been since it came in possession of the F. Bureau

Confirmation of Endorsement on letter of J.B. Watkins requests restoration of his property on Capitol and Broad Sts. as this intersection with 10th & c & c

Respty returned to Col. O. Brown asst comr with the statement that about one third of the building within named is used for the office of the Supt and for the Freedmens Court of this District.
Another fraction is used for a colored or freedmens Industrial school. Printing Office and Store room for the chief Qr Mr of the Bureau. The remainder about one third is being fitted up by the Freemens Aid Commission, for a Free School for white children. The building was built by the late so called Confederate Government for the use of this Provost Marshal General (Hinder) and has at considerable expense been by the N.S. Govt made convenient in internal arrangements for its use, and is most desirably located for the purpose for which it is required. Mr Watkins I understand has been receiving ground rent for the lot since its occupation by N.S. Govt. at the rate of one hundred dollars per month, which seems a liberal compensation.
