L.R.W.231.
Continuation of Endorsements on letter of Thomas D. Warren (Edenton N.C.) applies for restoration of his property — known as "Kings Creek" York Co—

Office Asst Supt 9th Dist. Va. Yorktown Va Feb 28/66

Respty returned with information that 247 acres of the within named farm have been rented and the remainder is being leased as far as possible ~ There are at present 44 families of Freedmen residing on it and more will be moved there during the coming week ~ It being nearly the only farm in the county of any size now in possession of the Bureau — Many of the residents thereon are of the poorer and more indignant class, and I am fearful that if the Farm is restored that it will be a material injury to this best interests of the Freedmen. In this county there is a populated of from 5 to 6000 Freedmen and if this farm is restored and the Bureau makes no provision for the poor and suffering it will be almost impossible to provide for them properly — A member of buildings are now being erected for the benefit of the afore-mentioned class, and it is hoped that in case higher authority orders its restoration that the comfort and convenience of the Freedmen residing there, will be protected.
