[[strikethrough]] Head Quarters Provost Marshal's Office, [[/strikethrough]]
EASTERN SHORE OF VIRGINIA
Accomac C H. Sept 12 1865.

Sir;
In reply to your reference to me of the enclosed application of Jane A Bailey for the restoration to her of the TB farm. & the accompanying letter of Lt Col White, I have to state; that said farm was reported by me to the Treasury Department as abandoned in January last, that it was accordingly rented out by me as such in that month for the present year.

The seizure of said farm was made by the order of Lt Col White. & by the military authorities in November 1864; & upon such seizure they seized 1/3 of the grain upon the premises. & carried it away to Lawnsfield where it was sold on account of the then Negro Department. A contract was also made by Col White, with a Mr Hiscox selling to the latter all the oak timber thereon.
