know all men by these presents that I John R. Knewstep of the City of Norfolk in the County of Norfolk State of Virginia considering the uncertainty of this life and being of sound mind and memory do make declare and publish this my last will and Testament - 
First - I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary the use improvement and income of my dwelling house and lot on Cumberland Street for her special use and benefit during the term of her natural life - 
Second I give and bequeath into my wife Mary all her dower property consisting of the following slaves viz: Violet, Frank, Harry, George, John, Sally, Deanna Virginia, also my own Slaves Louisa and William Henry for her especial use and benefit during the term of her natural life 
- Third I give and bequeath unto my wife Mary all my household property in fee simple - 
Fourth - I give and bequeath unto my wife Mary my notes, bonds and monies for her special use and benefit during the term of her natural life. 
Fifth I give and bequeath unto my niece Susan Rachel Beveridge whatever may remain of my estate after the decease of my wife Mary.
Sixth I give and bequeath unto William Blassingame after the business of the current year in which we interested shall have been settled my one half of the Sloop Mary including all my interests in her sails, mash anchors, rigging, and appurtenances of what kind soever.
