Office Asst Supt Freedmen Princess Anne and Nansemond Norfolk Sept 11, 1865 Respectfully forwarded to Capt. A.S. Flagg A.Q.M. Supt &c This Farm is distant and isolated and not since 1864 used as a home for freedmen, is now cultivated on shares and house and outbuildings required by tenant until crop is removed. Mrs Coke technically "abandoned" the property, though she obtained permission from U.S. authorities to go within the rebel lines with her family for the purpose of rejoining her husband, she then being in destitute circumstances. The certificate of the clerk of court does not prove conclusively that the property of Mrs Coke in 1860 was not worth $20,000 x/100 it simply shows that this piece of land was not of that value.
