To  Portsmouth Va. Dec. 1865

The undersigned would respectfully ask that a House and Lot of his in that part of the City of Portsmouth called Newtown, now in the possession of the Freedmen's Bureau be restored to him.

Your Petitioner has taken the amnesty oath prescribed by the Proclamation of President Johnson of the 29th of May 1865 that he does not come under any of the exceptions in said Proclamation, that the said property has not been libelled in any of the United States Courts and he herewith files the certificate of the Clerk of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
