To Coll O Brown.
Supt Freedmen &c Richmond VA

Col. I beg leave most respectfully to submit for your consideration the following facts: Upon the advances of the Federal army on the Peninsula Wm C Crafford resided in the County of Warwick and his residence being immediately between the lines of the conflicting armies, he was forced to leave for the personal "safety" of himself and little children. About a year since, the said Wm C Crafford departed this life, and your petitioner became the guardian of his children. The said Wm. C Crafford left a large number of cattle sheep & hogs, his farming interest, & household & kitchen furniture. I find some few of the cattle in the possession of the Freedmen who claim to have rented them from the Govt & some few farming utensils & furniture to which they lay no claim save that of possession. The children of the said Wm. C. Crafford (my wards) are now very destitute & I am desirous of saving them some little of what was once a handsome living. Wm. C Crafford my wards father was never at any time connected with the rebellion, being very infirm & beyond the coscript age. I beg that you will restore me the above property, in accordance with the order emanating from Washington restoring all property, which has not been confiscated and sold to the rightful owners.

very respectfully your obt servant &c
Fraces M Jones, Guardian
