Your petitioner James B Day would respectfully represent that he is the owner of [[strikethrough]] house & lot No. 15 South Cumberland St and also the owner of [[/strikethrough]] the house & ground lease of house & lot to 75 Main St City of Norfolk State of Virginia That the evidence of his title to same is hereto annexed marked "A" Real your petitioner was in the rebel Military service as a private only and never held office civil or military under the so called Confederate States or any state thereof & that he does not come within any of the Exceptions contained in President Johnsons Amnesty Proclamation. That he took the prescribed oath of Allegiance to the U.S. Government June 11th 1865 at Point Lookout where he theretofore had been held a prisoner of War, and again took the oath on the 11th day of June 1865 at Norfolk a certified copy of which is hereto annexed marked "B", that he took said oaths in good faith & with a firm & bona fide intention to keep & observe the same, that said property has not been seized or Libelled [[Libeled]] for confiscation
