to run the mill up to the time & since the war began - he was not in the confederate services, but was exempt from military duty and has been residing on said farm all through the war. I do not regard the farm as having been abandoned, because the purchasers Messrs Hayes & Rowe resided in the county of Gloucester - their agent and interested owner in the mill continued to reside and does at this time reside on the premises in the dwelling house located on the farm.
