Freedmen & Abandoned Lands.
The Petetion of Frederick M Holstead respectfully represents, that he is the owner of a Farm on the right bank of the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth river in the County of Norfolk, containing about one hundred acres of cleared land. which your petitioner desired by the descent from his father Joshua M Holstead deceased, that your petitioner has just attained to the age of twenty one years, and the Guardian of your petitioner. Matt. B. Holstead, has transfered [[transferred]] to him all control which as guardian. He has during the minority of your petitioner exercised over it, your petitioner. Though is prevented from obtaining the possesion [[possession]] of it. The Land having been taken possession of by the Government, as abandoned property in 1864 during the absence of your petitioner from the County of Norfolk. Your petitioner further states, that at the breaking out of the war he was absent from home in the County of Rockbridge Virginia attending school, at which time he remained until this farm was taken possession. Then he joined the so called Confederate Army, and continued in connection with it until the surrender
