4. On the 31st day of July 1865, my said house & lot was "turned over" to me, and "possession" of the same was restored to me, until the 21st day of August 1865, when I was informed that it was seized, or was to be seized by the Freedman's Bureau : a copy of which said order, restoring me the said house & lot, is herewith filed, marked (C.)

That relief may be granted in the premises to a suffering family, which is loyal & true to the United States, by restoring a shelter for them to put themselves in, in the earnest prayer is this Petitioner.

Prompted by what I was informed by [[barred]] men of my own section of country, was my duty, I became a Refugee. Of politics I knew nothing. I never conspired against the Government of the United States to bring about Secession - and never participated in the movement until my State had passed, by order of the Convention, an ordinance, which, I was informed, constrained my allegiance.

The War is now over - and I am as loyal and true to the United States as any citizen thereof.
