at its appraised value by John B Johnson who has paid the said Sum of Four Hundred dollars with the Treasury of the United States through the hands of Edward Lucas Jr. Pay master and military store keeper Harpers Ferry Armory

Now therefore I Jefferson Davis Secretary of War of the United States for and by direction of the President of the United States in consideration of the sum so paid do Hereby grant convey and transfer in for unto the said John B Johnson his heirs and assigns forever all the right title and interest whatsoever of the United States of America in and to the above maintained lot in Parcel of Ground and all the buildings that may be there on said lot being founded as follows To Wit

38 feet on Shenandoah street 94 feet deep to Railroad on lot "3" and 95 feet deep to Railroad on lot "5" of the same Block and 48 feed wide at Railroad

To have and to hold the same units the said John B Johnson his heirs and assigns forever
