Warwick Co Virginia
November 24th 1865

Col O Brown
Supt Negro Affairs
Department of Virginia

Col:
I beg leave respectfully to represent that on or about the first of April 1862, upon the advance of Gen'l McClellan
on Yorktown on the peninsula my farm situated in Warwick County and lying paralel with Yorktown was seized and taken possession of by Gen'l Magruder for military purposes, a large fortification was erected in the yard adjoining my dwelling house and preparations were made for what was then beleived to be an impending battle. I was ordered by the military Authorities to quit the premises immediately β€” which I did.

I moved up the peninsula and finally to Danville under these circumstances.

My farm in 1864 was taken possession of by one Wm Bartlett living in York β€”
