We the undersigned do respectfully submit the following circumstances in regard to our property situated in the City of Portsmouth "in that part called Newtown"  At the evacuation of the so called Confederate forces of the city of Portsmouth we were living in the county of Isle of Wight, it being the place of our residence, The said property at the time the Federal forces took possession of said city was occupied by tenents who had rented the same. The Treas. Department of the U.S. took possession of said property & have since rented and held the same. We have complied to all the requirements as you will see by the enclosed certificates &c and now most respectfully ask for the aforesaid property to be turned over to us.
