City of Petersburg Va Sept 11, 1865 

I, Thos E Marable do hereby certify that during the whole of 1864 I was Assistant Superintendent of the Company in the city of Petersburg, Va known as "The Petersburg Iron Works" and that during that year (about August I think) the agent of the so called Confederate States Government took from the shops of the Company in said city contrary to the wishes and against the consent of said Company and carried to Danville Va the following tools belong to said company, viz, 
1 large lathe for turning iron
1 small lathe for turning iron
1 steam hammer
1 large planer
1 small drill prep

I have since then understood that the agent of the United States Government has taken & carried the above tools to Norfolk Va
