Brown Asst Commissioner Bureau of Freedmen Sir I beg leave to notify you that I received from the President of the United States a Warrant of Pardon dated the 10th day of September 1865 and accepted by me on the 20th of the same month as will appear by the papers herewith exhibited and I therefore ask for the restoration of all my property now held or claimed by the Bureau of Refugees & Freedmen in [[strikethrough]] this [[/strikethrough]] the District of Eastern Virginia so far as the jurisdiction of said Bureau extends. I exhibit herewith proofs of my title to the property which as I understand is subject to your order viz: 1st Three Stores head of Market Square in the City of Norfolk now occupied by H. G. Stewart as a BookStore W. N Nichols & Co as a Grocery Store and F. Gottsberger 2. House No 26 Catharine Street Norfolk now occupied by the U.S. Provost Marshal and your Agents Bureau
