Virginia York County, to wit:

J. Bolivar Sheild, Clerk of York County in the State aforesaid, do hereby certify, that the lands lying in York County Va on Kings Creek, York River and Filgates Creek, known as Landsdown and Briarhurst belonged before the late war or Rebellion to Thomas Tinsley, Alexander Tinsley and Seaton G. Tinsley another the legal title to the said land, is still in them, there having been, so far as I know and believe, no Sale or Confiscation of the same by the Government of the United States. I further certify, that I am now and have been, for many years previous to the late war, custodian of the archives of York County, and am well acquainted with the land, as well as the ownership.

Given under my hand and the Seal of the County this 7th day of October A.D. 1865.
