108 To Col Orlando Brown Richmond Va. Your petitioner respectfully Showeth, That on the 7th day of November 1861, Mrs Sarah U Winder left her home in Northampton County Eastern Shore of Virginia for a residence in the State of North Carolina, sometime after her departure her home and lot containing eight-acres of land; situated in the Town of Eastville, was occupied by the troops of the U.S. Gov. and continue to be occupied; That your petitioner has never taken any part whatever in the rebellion, and left home at the time above mentioned; leaving her property in the hands of an agent, from no political concideration what-ever that by reason of circumstances beyond her control. That your petitioner, very shortly after leaving home was very desirous of returning to her residence on the E Shore, and made every effort to does, and finally [[?]]in accomplishing her object during the first week in March last past; That your petitioner has cheerfully compline with the requirements of the Presidents proclamation, and taken the oath of Amnesty— In view of these facts therefore as well as in consid-eration of the fact that she has as yet received no compensation for the use of the property for the comfortable support and living; your petitioner respectfully asks that the house and lot aforesaid may be released and restored to her possession.
