Respectfully returned with information that the property in question was represented to me by such persons and in such terms that it appeared certain that it was abandoned property, and, as such, should, of course, be taken up by the Freedmen's Bureau. I however, ordered the acting Provost Marshal to investigate the case and report. Desiring to leave the next day and knowing that prompt action was necessary, I directed my A.A.G. to issue the enclosed order, in case the Provost Marshal found the property was really abandoned. After our investigation, the Provost Marshal reported to my A.A.G. the property abandoned, and hence the order was issued.

I have carefully investigated the case in person, and now recommend that the order directing the house to be turned over to the Freedman Bureau be revoked.

The status of the property is briefly this: Mrs. Wright, the lawful owner of it left several years before the war. Nothing is known of her loyalty, or otherwise, except that she took the amnesty oath last August in New Orleans, La. She left the property in the hands of Geo. Blow, of this place, who rented it to the present occupant. Mrs. Reynolds, in February. 1861. at $250 per year. Mr. Blow afterwards entered into the rebellion, but returned and was sent out of our lines rather than take the oath of allegiance to the U.S. Govt. During the time Mr. Blow was here, he collected no rent because he would not take the oath necessary in order to institute proceedings.  Meantime Mrs. Reynolds was told by clerks
