Respty returned to Maj Crandon Supt &c. Information has been forwarded from this place relating to the within subject by Lieut Robins 11th U.S. Inf A.Q.M. here
No desecration as mentioned have come under my personal observation. In one or two instances I have heard it stated that head boards have been removed - and graves plowed over, which facts I am informed have been reported by the above named officer. There are many graves in the corporation limits - and in this Co (Spottsylvania) with only the original boards standing. when first buried, and in many cases the names Co & Reg't have become obliterated by time. I am informed by Lieut Robins that an officer is expected here next week with authority to locate a Cemetery. to which place these remains are to be moved. and I would most respectfully add that this is the only means that should be adopted and immediate action is required - if it is hoped to preserve the records of many of our fallen dead.
