Respectfully returned to Maj Genl A.H. Terry Asst Commissioner with the information that upon investigation. I find that on the night spoken of in the enclosed. A man entered the sleeping room of the female Teachers of the freedmens school and grasped Miss Congdon by the hands and I think with the intention of committing some foul deed. She tried to release herself from his grasp, but could not do so. She then screamed for Mr. Dixon who was sleeping in an adjoining room. The villain then struck at her and made his escape leaving behind him quite a formidable club which no doubt he would have used had it not have been for the presence of Mr. Dixon.
The prejudice of the people in Danville and vicinity is so strong against the Teachers of the freedmens school (and all Teachers) that it makes it very unsafe for them to remain here. 
Should the school building be set on fire, which I think would have been done if the villain had not been frustrated. would cause three other government buildings to burn and
