Respectfully, returned to Capt R.S Lacy Supt attention invited to enclosed depositon and copy of an order given Jno Sears by Capt James Guiser late PM Marshal. Also petition of Sears at the time the Army was occupying his premises with approval of Bvt Maj Genl Crawford. I visited Mr. Sears plantation, saw that some of his buildings has been destroyed by fire, that an Army had been encamped there and that most of his fences had been removed.
Mr Sears stated to me that all of the parties to whom he had found the cattle, claimed by him, were in destitute circumstances. That he has sixteen hundred acres of land in his plantation. I do not consider he is near as destitute as many others.
If he is destitute now, he can not long remain so with the advantages he has. I would therefore respectfully recommend that the cow taken by Mr. Martin Webb be returned to Mr Inge and that the others remain where they now are.
