Respectfully forwarded to Maj Genl O.O. Howard Commissioner &c. Genl S.C. Armstrong is a most excellent officer. but as he is employed by the Commissioner, it is not known whether he can be kept in service at his present salary under the new Bureau Bill.
It is believed that Genl Armstrong will decline to serve for $1200- per annum. the highest salary allowed under the bill referred to.

Respectfully returned (through Bvt Maj W R Morse Supt 4th Dist Va) with the information that Rev John Massie, who resides about four miles from this city. has the two children mentioned in his family. The boy is twelve or thirteen years old. the girl a little younger. Their names are respectively Thomas & Sallie, but Mr Massie thinks the boy was originally called James Thomas. He called him Thomas because he had another James in his household. The children belonged to the estate of his father-in-law, John Cable, of Cablestown Va.
Mr Massie desires to know the object of the enquiry, as unless the children are to be restored to their parents. he wishes to have them bound to him.
