A.G.M. & Supt 4th Dist Va.

Capt
I have the honor to state that the Chairman of the Board of Overseers of the Poor is very sick and is not able to answer the questions asked by you. I went out to see a Mr. Jeffrie who has been an overseer some years and I received his information that the county was found to look after the poor, and that they had never made any distinction between Whites and free Blacks. They would take charge of the freedmen, but they are not able to do so at present for the reason that the last levy ordered by the County Court had not been collected and that they could not maintain those now at the Poor farm and that the same rule would he used as laid down in the Court of Virginia for the maintenance of the Poor.

I am Capt.
Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servt.
