The educational interests are prospering The Am Miss Association have reopened five (5) schools with an aggregate attendance of 305 scholars and increasing in numbers daily. The Schools of the P.E.F. Commission will be reopened the coming month; while the private pay schools, supported by the Freedmen, the Teachers of which are all Freedmen, are prospering and give evidence of a desire upon their part to take upon themselves the responsibilities of educating their children, as far as they are able. The branch of the Savings and Trust co for Freedmen in this City is prospering. The same may be said of the Nat Building and Loan also the stockholders in which are nearly all Freedmen. The Temperance Society in connection with the schools is in a flourishing condition and the Freedmen remain as a class temperate.

There is considerable anxiety manifested by the Freedpeople, at the prospect of the discontinuance of the Bureau Jany 1, 1869 as they fear bad results for them unless some organization be retained for their protection and to which they may resort for advice and assistance
