The Military Institute at the place, during the war was a rendezvous for sons of the F. F. South, and was under the management and command of a man named Smith, who obtained considerable notoriety in this section of the Country for his ability to keep out of the way when a battle was expected.

Gen Hunter of the U.S.A Burned the Institute and all it contained while raiding in the valley, during the past month a party has been engaged in assessing the damage done to the Institute. The lawyer who has charge of the papers told me they expected the U.S. Gov'mt would in future time pay for the damage done by Hunter.

Every one connected with the Institute is a rank rebel at heart the young men can be heard at any hour of the day or night singing rebel songs.

It is said these cadets will have arms given them next session, and that the number of cadets at the Institute, will be larger than ever

Now the southern papers all say that if the U. S. Gov'mt has another war the south wants to be counted out, if such be the case, why all this exertion on the part of the "Unwashed" or "white washed" to rebuild this institute, and to give these boys so lately in the ranks of the rebel army a military education
