In relation to the above cases, I have the honor to state that the offence of Wm. Burk and Riaus Carter was a cooperation with them and a White man by the name of Kirkland, who gave bail for his appearance but left for parts unknown, and that Wm. Burk was a witness for the Commonwealth through all the examining trials, and it was through him the affair was brought to light.

In every case guilt was established beyond a doubt, but in my opinion the sentence was 
too severe.  

I have the honor to report a case of
Presentment by the Grand Jury, before whom
appeared Philip Perry Freedman a voluntary 
witness, who being duly sworn in open court, upon his evidence the Grand Jury presented Philip Jackson (White) for an assault and battery by him committed upon the person of the witness.
