In obedience to Par VI Circular No 10 C.S. from Hd Qrs Asst Comr State of Va I have the honor to report that the order, restoring jurisdiction to the Civil Courts over Criminal Cases of Freedmen, has resulted in this Sub Dist, in the several cases, of this character that were tried during the present month, before the Circuit Court which held its session in this place, sitting on the 2d inst and presided over by Judge Chambers, in fair trials and substantial justice to the parties. There were several cases on the docket and the result of trials as follows. Case Ist — dog stealing — dismissed by the Judge — Case 2d — Eliza Jones (cold) aged 13 years, Deft. — arraigned for poisoning a child with intent to kill. — tried, found guilty & sentenced to three (3) years imprisonment in the penitentiary at
