In complience with Circular No. 10, Hd Qrs Asst Com's'r of Va. C,S, 1866, I have the honor to submit the following report, For Nottoway and Lunenburg Counties Va. For the Month ending May 31st 1867.

The trial of cases in which Freedmen were parties, by the Civil Authorities during the past month, has been generally conducted with a degree of fairness and promptness unequalled since the transfer of jurisdiction to the Civil Officials. Magistrates are more disposed to listen to, and take cognizance of Freedmens Complaints than formerly. this is particularly so in Lunenburg County, where three months ago, it would have been almost impossible to induce some Justices to act in a case, now they are willing and seem disposed to
