Va Sept. 7,/67 Respectfully returned with the report that the within case was the only one tried in the civil courts of this Division in which Freedmen were a party (during the month of Aug. 1867) and the said Julia A. Johnson received a fair and impartial trial, and she received a very light sentence Saml W. Carpenter Capt. V.R.C. and A.S.A.C. File
