On the 6th inst Buck Boldwin (Col'd) was shot by Tylor Robinson, a citizen of Lunenburg Co. under the following circumstances. "On complaint a warrant and special authority was given by a Magistrate to Tylor Robinson and Ashley Robinson to search the premises where the said Boldwin was stopping, for stolen watch, with orders that if found to arrest the party upon whom found, and bring him before the Magistrate. The watch was found in the clothing of the said Boldwin. In attempting to arrest him, he resisted and ran, was knocked down by the said Ashley Robinson and shot by Tylor Robinson. He died on the 8th. An examination was held before two Magistrates and the said Robinsons acquitted on the evidence adduced.

Colored testimony is admitted the same as white but unaided by money or friends the Freedmen's chance for justice is very poor.

I am Genl,
Very Respectfully,
Your Obd. Servant,
Wm. P. Austin
Asst. Sub. Asst. Com.
