him he had heard that Jackson had said that he shot
the ox. Know nothing further in the matter. 
Croxton Soomis (Col'd). Defendent [[Defendant]]. being duly sworn deposes
as follows. did not have a gun in his hand on the morning
of the 4th July last. was asleep at the time the shot was
fired. only knows of it by his wife waking him and
telling him of it. knows nothing about the shooting of 
the ox. 
There being no further testimony the court unanimously
decided the prisoner to be guilty of the charge and
sentenced him to hard labor for thirty days or to 
pay a fine of twenty dollars.

Charge Refusal of payment for use of skiff

John Willis (Col'd) being duly sworn deposeth as follows
Am owner of a skiff with Miles Sewell. on Friday 20th
July Mr. J. Baker took the skiff without asking for
permission. and use it for loafing a schooner with
wood. Skiff will carry about fifty bushels. Baker used 
it for two days (Friday and Saturday) asked Baker what
business he had to take the boat without permission
Baker said he would pay for the use of the boat and
for any damage that the skiff might have sustained
