5 James M. Griffin & Hugh M. Foley cold and Mrs Maria B. Rea Teachers of Freedmens Schools, request information regarding their salary as Teachers for the month of April 1868 forward the applications to Capt H. R. Pease U.S.A Supt. of Schools 4th Disct. for information.

6 Elizabeth Jackson cold. Vs Thomas Berryhill & Charles Berryhill Complains that they came to house masked and fired several times at the house. Several of the bullets penetrating the logs of the house, and one Ball passed through between the logs and went clear through the building  I ordered her to make an affidavit before some J. of P. in Amite County where the offense was committed on the 30th of Sept. at about 10 oclock at night 

7 Eastor Jenkins cold. vs James Young. Complains that he has been badly beaten by Young with a large hickory stick, over her head and body, which cut her head badly and has quite disabled her from work for the present. This took place on Joe. Hoffs place in Amite County and Eastor implicates Hoff in the beating  I ordered her to make an affidavit against the parties before a Justice of the Peace in Amite County.

8 J. Jones colored vs. Henry Dawson Complains that during his absence at Baton Rouge La, Henry came to his house and took away from there his wife, which is against his will and that now when she wishes to return Henry will not give up her clothes. Ordered the parties before me and investigated the case. Settled by Henry giving up the things and the woman returning to her husband.

9 Kitty Evans cold vs George Evans cold. Complains that George left her in Sept 1868  Was married March 1st 1868, since which time have lived together untill Sept. Sent for the parties and settled the case by George agreeing to support Kitty as well as he is able.

10 E.B. Mitchell vs George Hall, cold et. als. Request that I will intercede to bring about a more amicable state of feeling towards him on the part of Hall and others. Mitchell was charged with shooting at Hall with a pistol in June last, and when pursued made his escape, no one was hurt  Mitchell who says that he did not fire the pistol, but is afraid of the colored people as they believe he did fire at Hall, asks me to use my influence in his favor   I have written to him to return and that probably the consequences will not be serious.  Am awaiting his decision.
