"The result of a census complete in some districts, and of a careful estimate in others, shows the colored population to number about 500,000, not varying materially from that before the late rebellion."

I called at the house of John Tolliver & found him very comfortable though not able to walk about much on account of his lameness, he is a shoemaker and doing very well, he has married again to Fanny Morris - who has two children. his P.O. address is Orange C.H. Va. "Jack Toliver" the old man was very glad to hear from Francis Wood.

Respectfully returned to Gen. O. Brown, A.A.A. Gen with the recommendation that Seventy Five Dollars ($75.00/100) be appropriated to supply seats & desks for Freedmen's school at Harrisonburg. The Bureau is not at liberty to supply stoves for school rooms.
The average attendance upon this school is about 175 scholars.
