Respectfully returned. Upon personal investigation I find that the within statements are wholly true. When has there been no Beef such as Hospital patients are entitled to, since Dec 18th at least. And none at all has been received since the date of the communication. The Commissary at Yorktown (Lt. Alcott) admits the truth of these statements and says that he has duly represented them to the proper authorities. He further states that he can purchase beef at Yorktown at a rate not to exceed the price at present paid, plus the cost of transportation. I would recommend that the request of the Surg in Chief as to buying Beef at Yorktown be granted.
