Va Mch 4th. 1867 Respectfully returned to Capt R. S. Lacey Supt. 7th. Dist. Va. with report. This case has not been in court yet. Adolphus Bollon only tried to employ a lawyer to prosecute his claim. But could not get any one to undertake the case. His mother was a free woman of color, who died at the time he was 12 years old in 1854 leaving him twelve hundred Dollars in gold which was turned over to this boy at the time, besides some other property. James Bollon (white) was the father of this boy and took possession of the money &c left him by his mother to take care of until he became of age in May 60. Adolphus went to James Bollon for his money. He told him that he could not pay him then but would do so or will his property to him. During the war Adolphus went North, and remained away after the surrender. on his return he found James Bollon had died in 1865 without a will and his brother the only heir had taken possession of the property and sold it and appropriated the money to his own use and now refuses to pay any portion of it to this Colord boy
