+++ Most of the applicants for laborers are from the South, and it is difficult to get colored people to go to the cotton states, and all the applicants about here, want single men or women, which makes it difficult to keep families together. If the head of a family goes into the country leaving his wife and children here, they cannot find employment and his wages will not support them. This man Henderson Nickerson, if he can get transportation for his wife and child to Culpeper, will be able to support them ++++
