Va. First Dist.

Recvd back May 1st '67
Office S.A. Comr.
Warrenton, Va. April 24th 1867
Respectfully returned to Capt. S.P. Lee Sub. Asst. Comr. 10th S. Dist Va. his attention invited to the accompanying papers and statements of Mr Payne, Mr Doughty claims to have paid for his land in full, while the enclosed deed of trust & other papers would seem to indicate that he had not, the records of the county were destroyed during the war and this deed of trust happened to be in the hands of a private person, Mr Doughty is considered a good respectable man by all his neighbors, but I think the terrible suffering he has undergone during the war has worked upon his mind.
