Respectfully returned to Col. A. P. Ketchum, A.A.A.G. thro Capt S. P. Lee with the information that the within named lot of land is now borne on Rolls of Abandoned lands, & I knew of no reason why Mr McGarity should not contract, and told him so; said McGarity has been requested to file an application for the restoration of said property, in compliance with existing orders to that effect, from which he inferred that he was to lose his land, notwithstanding that he was repeatedly told the contrary.

Respectfully returned to Capt. J. A. McDonnell, S.A.C. 9th Dist. I know nothing of Silas Johnson, his wife or his claim, and so stated in writing as endorsement on a written communication on the subject forwarded to me here from Lt. Ed. Murphy and which I entered to him direct, some time back. There are other "Mr. Jacksons", living near Norfolk but in courtesy to them I would suggest that Silas Johnson specify himself where he lived in 1866.
