Lee, S.A.C. with information that I visited Hillsborough yesterday and confessed with the colored people regarding a school house and a school. They have already procured a site for the house and have the logs for the same already cut. They are very anxious for a school, which can be taught by a young colored man by the name of Davis. They will require for the completion of the building for carpenter work, lumber finishing &c - about $200, which amount I would respectfully recommend be furnished them. As soon as harvest is over they will begin and finish what they can themselves do. (Sgd.) S. B. Smith Bvt. Capt. & A.S.A.C. Bu. R.F. & A.L. Nat. Dis. 10th S. Dist. Va. Alexandria, Va.
