Sir
I herewith enclose you the papers sent by you in reference to the claim against this Company of the Estate of Benjamin Christian Decs'd.
The paper given you by Charlotte Graves, purporting to be her power of attorney to you to act, might in itself be sufficient, were it not for the fact that no authority appears anywhere in Charlotte Graves to give such power. The Company is not inclined to press its own claim to be the administrator under Sect. 10 of its Charter.
But whoever does appear as such administrator must come properly authenticated.
The proper Court or Authority for the District where Charlotte Graves resides, in Virginia or elsewhere, must issue to her such letters of administration as this Company itself would need before it could act in the premises. The Court or Surrogate properly authorized must settle all the questions as to the right of Charlotte Graves to act, before any power of attorney from her to you can be recognized by this Company.
Very Respectfully
