I think the markings that look like colons (:) are actually periods (.) and that the second dot was not intended, but is an accidental side effect of writing with a quill pen. Therefore, I transcribed them as periods. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-06-25 13:18:19 I disagree with the above comment. Colons appear instead of periods in documents throughout this and other Freedmens Bureau projects. They appear to be a typical punctuation style of the late 1860s.
