General
I have the honor to report the following facts and to request instructions in the case.

On the list of Claimants sent from your office on the 11th June 1873, is the name of Walton Smith. The confidential record accompanying the claim gives the name of Smith Walton. Smith Walton has appeared for payment with complete identification papers, and upon Examination of him I am satisfied that he is the Smith Walton that enlisted at Bowling Green in July 1864, Served in Co. E. 108 CT, and was discharged at Vicksburg Miss, in March 1866. Walton states that he was paid nearly two hundred dollars Bounty several years since at Bowling Green, by a Paymaster whose name he does not remember. Mr Read agent informs me that he made but one application for Bounty for Walton, and two hundred Dollars was allowed him, on Treasury Certificate No 453300, that his fees as agent were paid him in 1868, and that he is satisfied that Walton received the amount due him on the above mentioned Treasury Certificate about that time.

I am General
Very Respectfully
