In reply to your letter of the 12th Ulto. relative to certain discrepancies in the name of the soldier in the case of "Lee Atkins" deceased, late Pvt. Co C. 5th U.S.C. Cav. that appear upon the papers in the claim sent to you from this office; I have the honor to inform you that the Second Auditor of the Treasury (to whom the case was referred) states that "the name of the soldier is variously written according to papers on file with the case as follows: In one application as 'Lee Aikens'; in another application as 'Lee Aikin' and in the Inventory of the Effects as 'Lee Aitken'".
