0171 Very Respectfully Your Obt Servants Garrick Mallery Bvt. Maj. U.S.A. Captain 43rd Geo Q. White Captain 44th U.S. Inf. Chief Q.M. D.O. Paul R. Hambrick Lieutenant 45th U.S. Infantry Approved O Brown Bvt. Brig. Genl. Vols. Asst. Comr.
Transcription Notes:
I had a hard time deciphering the different signatures, even after consulting the field staff office list (https://transcription.si.edu/sites/default/files/uploads/fb_va_staff_022620211.pdf).
I could not identify the second signature. I think the first part of the "Q.M.D.O" acronym at the end stands for Quartermaster, but I'm not sure what the "D.O." part stands for, so I left the acronym in place.
For Paul Hambrick's signature, the Staff List says he was the Subassistant Commissioner from May 1867 to Dec 1868 and Assistant Superintendent of Schools from Jan-Apr 1869, but I don't think the title says Superintendent or Commissioner - it looks more like Lieutenant to me, which fits better with the US Infantry part of the title.
