Genl:
Referring to my letter of yesterday in reference to the claim of Thomas Gatewood late Pvt. Co. I. 46. C.T. settled by Treas. Certif. No. 604286 I have the honor to remark that I have this day been informed by Mr Moyers Atty of Record in the case, that upon more careful scrutiny of his books he is not by any means satisfied that Thomas Gatewood is dead, or that he filed a claim for Hannah Branch as sister of Thomas Gatewood that his books contain no record of any such claim.

On the contrary he is of the opinion that Thomas Gatewood is still alive, that his post office address is Wittsburg Ark. and that Hannah Branch is no relation of his whatever

This information agrees with a letter I have in my possession from Thomas Gatewood late Pvt. Co. I. 46. C.T. written from Wittsburg Ark, requesting information in regard to his claim

The mistake in all probability arose from the letter of the Second Aud., addressed to Hannah Branch in care of Mr. Moyers stating erroneously it is presumed, that Treas. Certif No 604286 had been issued in her favor.
