further instructions relative thereto.

Col. Miles Owen of this city has informed me that quite a number of colored men left your plantation about 6 weeks ago with a view of meeting me at Little Rock to receive [[illegible]] after I had left 

I will be much obliged if you will furnish me with a list of these persons stating the Co. & regt. to which they formerly belonged together with their present P.O. address, if possible.

If I have this I will be enabled to notify such of them as I am prepared to pay when & where to meet me.

This will prevent them from making unnecessary journeys &  so be a benefit to you

In reply to your letter of the 22 inst I have the honor to inform you that Primus Peterson remained either in the street or in a public entry while waiting at Little Rock to be paid & not in a lawyers office at all.

As I informed you in my letter of the "7th" inst I will pay Primus & Maria Peterson at Memphis Tenn. upon their being properly identified.

For this purpose it will be necessary that they bring with them an affidavit of the lawyer who filed their claim to the effect that they are the persons who originally filed the claim in the case. They should also be accompanied by at least one witness who belonged to the came co. & regt. as their son Primus Baldwin if possible.

On my list of claimants to be paid appears the following names
