I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of 29th of January directing me to deposit the funds for the payment of "Edmonds Lyons" formerly Private of Company B. 16th U.S.C.T. to the credit of Captain James McMillan 3d Arty. taking certificate of deposits in triplicate. 
On presenting my check to the bank I am informed that the Bank only issues such certificates, in triplicate, when the funds are deposited to the credit of the U.S. Treasurer, and in no other cases. 
If desired I will send Captain McMillan my checks on the First National Bank to his order and take his receipts therefor
