Endorsement with two enclosures
Nashville Tenn. Feby 9, 1874
Respectfully returned with the statement made by several men who were formerly members of the 44th Regt. US.C.T. also the statement of Dozier himself. The witnesses were not brought by the claimant but were found by my janitor who I instructed to go out and bring to me any men he could find who belonged to the 44th. They all concurred in the statement that Dozier was unusually stupid and hardly half witted. From the personal examination of the men I am satisfied that he is the man he claims to be and that he was unable from ignorance to know where his regiment was mustered out or how to get back to it.
