family or friends since that Ku Klux raid and she wants to know if she as sole survivor can be paid, either the whole amount of the claim ($72.59) or her one half thereof.

In reply to the inquiries in your "memorandum" of the 24th Inst. I have the honor to state that I have heard from two claimants at Pulaski, Seventeen at Huntsville, Seven at Chattanooga and ten at Knoxville in all thirty six. Those claimants do not reside at, but in the neighborhood of the points named and would have to be informed of my intention to be at those points at least two or three weeks in advance. I have sent blanks for identity to each and directed the claimants to send one copy by mail to me at once. These notifications were sent to them about three weeks since and up to the present time I have received eighteen affidavits leaving as many more to hear from.

I beg leave to report that Zack Taylor late Prvt Co. I 111th U.S. C.T. has just reported to me that John L Wilson, a claim agent at Columbia Tenn. to whom was sent a check for the Commutations of Rations allowed said Talley paid Mr. J B Wilkes for Talley $45 35/100 out of the check for $55 35/100 retaining $10 for his fee. The enclosed receipts are vouchers for the truth of the statement. 
I have had a number of complaints made to me by claimants of extra fees charged by Wilson.
